National Novel Writing Month is a fun approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing on 1 November. The goal is to write a 50,000-word novel by 11:59:59 PM on 30 November. NaNoWriMo values enthusiasm and perseverance over craft. It is an opportunity for everyone who has ever thought about writing a novel. In 2011 there were 256,618 participants. 36,843 writers finished 50K words by the midnight deadline. They started the month as dreamers. They walked away as novelists.
